Majority of us spend time maintaining the interior of our homes. To make it look pleasant, we clean, adorn and make sure that it is well maintained. On the other hand, outdoor spaces are an important part of our homes. It is important to give our home’s exterior the same amount of attention.

Individuals with less experience caring for their outdoor space, the process can seem complex. If you are an experienced homeowner wanting to take better care of your outdoor space, or an aspiring homeowner who dreams of your own space in Lagos, read ahead as we share some tips on outdoor spaces maintenance.

Go Natural

Grass is known to cool itself and its surroundings, reducing home cooling needs, as well as to purify rainwater and improve groundwater quality. Natural Grass has a positive environmental impact because it is a plant that can absorb and trap carbon dioxide that causes global warming.

You must mow the grass in order to keep it in good condition. Don’t leave it for later. Rake up fallen leaves. While organic material is great for grass, leaving it to collect can cause build up and suffocate your lawn. Instead, you can use raked leaves as mulch to help deliver nutrients to your soil. Some people are eager to cut grass very short in order to maximize the time between mowing, but cutting grass too short can cause it to burn and dry out in hot weather. As a result, more frequent decisive trims are encouraged.

Pest Control

Despite keeping a clean outdoor living space, sometimes pests are inevitable. While your outdoor space may be free of standing water, other hot spots, like gutters and plant leaves are difficult to keep dry and mosquito-free. Certain plants can be a natural deterrent to pests, and some essential oils also work similarly. Lavender, lemongrass, mint, and others are commonly used.

Inspect, Clean, & Maintain Wooden Works

Chairs, shade, table and wall made of wood can be lovely additions to an outdoor room. However, in order to withstand the natural elements, they will need to be maintained on a regular basis. Pollen, mold, and other contaminants can begin to build up on your wooden surfaces. It is always a good idea to clean them and inspect for areas that have been lightened by the sun or that require resealing. Repainting and resealing efforts can be beneficial from time to time to keep your wood features looking their best.

You should also look for signs of wood rot and other urgent repairs. The sooner you detect any flaws, the less expensive it will be to repair them.
